Lake Riviera is a roughly 50-acre, tannin-stained lake in Brick Township's Lake Riviera Park, hidden in plain sight off busy Brick Boulevard. It gets little attention because there's no trailer parking and only electric motors are allowed, but that's part of its appeal: largemouth over 4 pounds and pickerel over 24 inches aren't uncommon, and there's good panfishing.
When to fish
- Spring: bass and big bluegill and pumpkinseed spawn in the shallows, and cruising bass can be spotted from the beach.
Where to fish
- The beach: over 100 yards of sand, a prime place to sight-fish for cruising bass and spawning fish.
- The spillway path and the conduit hole below it.
- The T-shaped fishing pier: a short walk from the parking lot. It has no railings, so be careful.
- Docks along the shoreline: plenty of cover for largemouth.
- Sunken brush, pondweed, bladderwort and lily pads: the lake averages only 3 to 4 feet deep and reaches about 8.
How to fish it
Work the docks and weed edges for bass and pickerel, and target the spawning beds in spring. Yellow perch, black crappie, bullheads and sunfish are plentiful, and the lake holds a decent population of channel catfish even though it isn't stocked.
Getting there
Lake Riviera Park is off Brick Boulevard in Brick Township, with parking for about 60 cars (no trailers). A small kayak and car-top ramp is a short walk from the lot. Only electric motors are allowed.
