Harrisville Pond is a tannin-stained Pine Barrens pond of about 50 to 60 acres in Wharton State Forest, along County Road 679 between Chatsworth and New Gretna, across the road from the ruins of the old paper-mill town of Harrisville. It's a quiet place to paddle and a pickerel factory: on a good summer day, anglers can catch dozens.

- Summer: the classic pickerel season here.
Where to fish
- Clumps of water lilies: pickerel use the lily pads as ambush points.
- The back of the pond: where the Oswego River comes in; the current picks up there.
How to fish it
A weedless silver spoon is the go-to lure; toss it into and along the lily pads.
Getting there
Facing the pond from Route 679, the dam is on your right and a smaller spillway on your left. Launch kayaks, canoes and car-top boats from the sandy beach left of the dam or the launch beside the spillway. A marked hiking trail starts by the spillway launch; watch for timber rattlesnakes, and bring insect repellent.
