Pachaug Pond is an 841-acre lake in Griswold and one of the four lakes where DEEP keeps a northern pike fishery going with yearly fingerling stockings. It also holds largemouth bass and chain pickerel, with white and yellow perch and black crappie for panfish anglers.
When to fish
- Winter: DEEP points out that pike stay active all winter, adding an ice-fishing option when safe ice forms.
Where to fish
- Below the dam: DEEP says pike have spread downstream into the Pachaug River and Hopeville Pond.
Getting there
The state launch is at the north end of the pond, off Route 138 at 945 Voluntown Road in Griswold. It takes trailered boats year-round but has no dock. Hydrilla, an invasive weed, was recently found here, so clean your boat and trailer before and after.
